Two PhD fellowships available at ARENA (Centre of European Studies at the University of Oslo)

Two positions as PhD fellows are available at ARENA, starting from Summer 2007. One fellowship is announced within ARENAs research focus in general and one within European foreign and security policy. The closing date for applications is 21 May 2007.

Fellowship 1: The research focus for this fellowship should be within the core areas of ARENA
This fellowship is financed by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo.

Fellowship 2: The research focus for this fellowship should be within the field of European foreign and security policy. Applicants should consult the detailed description of the position (paper version available on request). This fellowship is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence.

ARENA started as a ten-year basic research programme under the Research Council of Norway in 1994. ARENA is now a Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo, under the Faculty of Social Sciences. There are currently 17 employees at ARENA, including administrative staff.
ARENA's primary objective is to conduct high quality research on political integration in Europe, with a particular emphasis on the role of the European Union. More information about ARENA.

The research fellow will be fully integrated in the ARENA research team and its international network, and is required to participate in the PhD programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The period of appointment is four years. At least 75 percent of this time will be dedicated to the PhD programme and the doctoral thesis. The remaining 25 percent will be allocated to common activities at ARENA.
The required qualification for the position (at the time of appointment) is a five year master's degree (oer equivalent) in the social sciences.
