Welfare State Performance and Design

Invitation to submit papers for presentation at the 2008 conference that is looking for fresh ideas on every open issues of welfare-state performance and design. The conference will address questions such as: How successfully does the welfare state fulfill its different goals, like income smoothing, social protection and redistribution of income? How do welfare policy instruments affect work and saving decisions? Are the reforms of the welfare state needed and if they are, what are the paths to reform?

Some of the topics that will be discussed, in the context of evaluation and design, are: transfer programs and policies, labour market policies, family policies, income redistribution, distributive justice, intergenerational equity, pension reform, income replacement, poverty alleviation, optimal tax policy.

Submissions must be made in English and should include the following:

There is no conference fee.

A special conference issue of Financial Theory and Practice (FTP) will be published in the months following the Conference. We invite you to make a double submission of your paper: (a) for the conference presentation, and (b) for publication in FTP.
