Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Research and Studies on Eastern Europe (MIREES)

MIREES is an innovative graduate programme, taught entirely in English, unique in Italy and Europe, devoted to students that have a BA background in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Agricultural or Cultural studies at large, and would now like to acquire a specialized, in-depth knowledge of the Post-socialist Countries in transition, the new EU member States after the Enlargements of 2004 and 2007, as well as the New East-European Neighbour Countries.

MIREES combines an academic approach with professional training, forging potential insightful consultants, analysts, and managers as Area Experts for international agencies, public administrations, private and public companies, and NGOs, while also offering a solid basis for further academic studies at the PhD level.

The degree program is entirely taught in English (120 ECTS) and offers interdisciplinary, in-depth knowledge of post-socialist countries in transition, new EU member states, and new East-European neighbor countries. Students develop language skills by learning one Eastern European language both in the 1st year (3 levels of Russian, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Slovak) and 2nd year of study.

Enrolled students spend the first year in Forlì. In the second year, a minimum of 5 months will be spent at one of the Partner Universities or, in particular cases, at other Mirees associated Universities. A mobility grant is offered to all enrolled students, thanks to Erasmus + or the MIREES mobility scheme. Internship and research opportunities are available in the fourth semester.

For admission to the Master of Arts in "Interdisciplinary Research and Studies on Eastern Europe" it is necessary to have:

1.  First Cycle Degree from an Italian university among those listed in the Call or an equivalent First Cycle Degree from a non-Italian University which grants access to a Second Cycle Degree in the issuing country.

2.  The knowledge of the English language at a minimum of B2 Level, according the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, attested by one of the following certificates issued no more than 3 years prior to the application deadlines: TOEFL - computer-based – of at least 213 points; TOEFL - paper-based - of at least 550 points; TOEFL - Internet-based – of at least 80 points; IELTS - of at least 6.0 points; FCE – B; Trinity ISE II ; a B2 level certificate in English released by a University Language Centre. The above-mentioned certificates are not requested if the candidate is an English mother-tongue or obtained a First-Cycle Degree from an English-speaking university or entirely taught in English.

3.  The assessment of a suitable personal preparation in the following disciplinary fields:  Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Political Geography, Gender Studies, Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Literature, Language Studies, Communication Studies and also in recent political and economic events in the European and international contexts, usually provided  by a First Cycle Degree (BA).


The assessment is carried out on the basis of the documents submitted by the candidates and listed in the call for applications.
