The Jean Monnet Network Consortium led by the New York University of Tirana, together with theInstitute of East Central and Balkan Europe (IECOB), the University of Dubrovnik, the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology and theEuropean Movement of Serbia is pleased to announce an exciting and timely Winter School program, under the title “Democratization and reconciliation strategies in South-East Europe: redefining ineffective policies”.
The Winter School is part of the Jean Monnet project Democratization and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans. The Winter School will take place in the city of Dubrovnik, at the University of Dubrovnik (University campus), from 9th-16th February 2020.
The International Winter School will focus on different democratization and reconciliation policies applied in South-East Europe from different actors, from EU, national, local and NGO level. It will be discussed why different policies where effective or ineffective in achieving success in establishing consolidated democracies or sustainable reconciliation. Particular emphasis will be put on discussing new possible strategies and policies.
The International Winter School will provide frontal lessons, class discussions, different presentations and round tables with a strong interdisciplinary approach.
Lectures will include following topics:
- 9 February, Sunday, students arrival
- 10 February, Monday - 09,00-13,00 and 14,00-18,00 lectures (with breaks)
- 11 February, Tuesday - 09,00-13,00 and 14,00-18,00 lectures (with breaks)
- 12 February, Wednesday - 09,00-13,00 and 14,00-18,00 lectures (with breaks)
- 13 February, Thursday - 09,00-13,00 and 14,00-18,00 lectures (with breaks)
- 14 February, Friday – Field or boat trip
- 15 February, Saturday - 09,00-13,00 lectures (with breaks). Farewell cocktail
- 16 February, Sunday - Departures
The fee for participation in the School is € 60,00. It will be applied to selected applicants and should be paid by 25 January 2020 at the following IBAN bank account: HR0823400091110135015, SWIFT/BIC code: PBZZGHR2X,
Reference to be used for the payment: 6615-12-94. There is no reimbursement in case of withdrawing from the program.
Students in social sciences and humanities; NGO members; professionals with an academic and/or executive interest in the topics of the program. Participants from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Serbia and North Macedonia are particularly encouraged to apply.
The maximum number of accepted participants to the Winter School is 25.
Provided conditions for selected applicants
Selected applicants will receive a travel reimbursement up to € 200,00 at the end of the program. Accommodation in double rooms and meals are also provided by the organization. Please note that in order to be eligible for travel reimbursement and free accommodation at the hotel, participants have to reside at least 50 Kms away from the School venue. Proof of distance will be the residence address reported in the ID or in other official documents to be included to the application.
