POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

Description of the Event

They are looking for a creative, motivated and enthusiastic POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for a fixed term from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020. The successful candidate's research project will focus on Russian domestic politics and governance. The postdoctoral researcher to be appointed will have proven expertise in these and related areas. His/her main duties will include full-time research in their respective fields. The post will require both independent and collaborative scholarly publishing.

An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher must hold a doctoral degree (or its equivalent) in political science or adjacent disciplines, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly research, and possess the teaching skills required for the position. The doctoral degree must have been granted by the awarding institution prior to the closing date for the applications. Furthermore, the doctoral degree is expected to have been granted no more than five years prior to the application (2012 or later). The five-year limit may be exceeded only for particularly compelling reasons, such as maternity, paternity or parental leave, military or non-military service leave, or extended sick leave. An applicant who appeals for an exemption from the five-year limit must indicate the reasons in his or her curriculum vitae.

The successful candidate is expected to have a proven capacity to publish in scholarly journals, have strong analytical and methodological skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate should also have excellent skills in written and oral English, as well as a good command of the Russian language.

The salary is based on the salary system of Finnish universities (YPJ); in this case, it is based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. The starting salary for the position will be EUR 3,300-4,000 per month, depending on the appointee's qualifications and work experience. Employment contract will be made with a probationary period of four months.
