A community of foreign schoolars and university students, coming mainly from the Balkan and Eastern Europe are the protagonists of the 22nd edition of the Central European Initiative Summer School, to be held from September 12th to 17th, at the premises of the University Residential Center of Bertinoro
Established in 1995 with the aim of creating an arena for dialogue and cooperation for young experts and prospective professionals from the Yugoslav successor states in war, the CEI Summer School School has become a recurrent event. With a strong international dimension, thanks to the active involvement of IECOB Institute for Central-Eastern and Balkan Europe, the EBIN Europe and the Balkans International Network (established in 1992 with a financial contribution of the EU), the CEI International Summer School has been attended by MA students, NGO activists, and young professionals not only from the Balkans, but from all CEI countries.
With the 22nd edition of the School entitled "Minorities, Kin-States and Territorial Cooperation'', IECOB and CEI aim to promote a one week international forum of experts and young professionals in human rights issues with the aim of stimulating a dynamic discussion on over the prospective developments related to the implementation of minority rights in our increasingly diversified societies; the principles of territorial integrity and territorial cooperation. Furthermore, the relationships between diaspora commnunities, minority rights and kin-States will be investigated as broad global phenomena, and discussed in the framework of both the existing nation-states and the EU integration processes, while elaborating on the CEI role in these contexts.
Also, this year the summer school is realized in close cooperation with the European Regional Master's Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe, coordinated by the Universities of Sarajevo and Bologna, and co-funded by the European Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy.
Additionally to the set of class lectures and workshops, the summer school includes in its offer the participation to the CEI International Conference ‘’Breaking Down or Re-Building The Walls: Migration Crisis, Refugees and Security in Southeastern Europe’’, organized by University of Bologna, taking place at Bertinoro Castle.
