Venue: Facoltà di Scienze Politiche, Economiche e Sociali, Sala Lauree, Via Conservatorio 7, Milano
Period: 7 March, 2016
The purpose of the conference is to analyze, from an interdisciplinary perspective and with the help of highly competent foreign experts, the issue of geopolitical, legal and economic relations between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). It is a topic of growing importance for the EU, as evidenced by the letter sent on Nov. 20, 2015 by the President of the European Commission Junker to the Russian President Putin with a claim for an increased cooperation between the two organizations.
From the legal point of view, there are numerous aspects worthy of further investigation as the compatibility between the legal regime of the EU’s trade relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, in order to resolve incompatibilities between obligations arising from different types of agreements.
The organization of the Eurasian Economic Union has many points of interest from the point of view of legal models of regional integration. In fact the Eurasian economic project, initially developed by the initiative of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, produced the subsequent participation of other former Soviet states and a progressive deepening of integrative dynamics, that is profiles of ‘supranationality’ (increasingly independent organizational apparatus, case-law of court, etc.).
Moreover, the involvement of former Soviet countries that are also interested by a strengthening of relations with the EU (the countries of the Eastern Partnership) makes the analysis of these dynamics extremely current, even in comparative perspective.
