International Conference - Emigration to and from Europe: a Multidisciplinary Long-term View

Description

This multi-disciplinary conference focuses on the long-term (1850-2010) history of migration movements to and from Europe. The contributions deal with the past and current impact of population flows on origin and destination countries. Various perspectives are used: micro- and macro-economic effects, cultural and social issues (involving integration), resistance to assimilation, etc. The concluding round-table will evaluate if lessons can be learned from our experience in the  past to help us face and integrate current and future immigrant flows.

The papers will cover various angles, micro and macro economic effects, cultural and social issues such as integration problems and prospects, resistance to assimilation etc.

Contributions will also focus on the diverse impact of migration on the European states today, which have become large receiving countries. The aim is to focus on migration past and present impact on Europe through a multi-disciplinary approach which will include hisotorical, economic, political and sociological contributions. And the concluding round-table will evaluate if lessons can be learned from our experience in the past to help us face and integrate today's and tomorrow's growing immigrant influx.The conference will be in English and the acts of the conference will be published with a renown European editor.

The conference is organized in the framework of prof. Fauri’s Jean Monnet Chair
