M.A. in Energy Security at FSS, Masaryk University in Brno

Description

The Master Energy Security Studies program has been established within the Department of International Relations and European Studies at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University in Brno.

The program reacts on a long-term demand by employers coming from both the private and public sphere for professional energy analysts.
The high standard of the Energy Security Studies program is based on the foundations of the second largest Czech university with international reputation. The demanding and intensive lectures are held by local and international lecturers from the academic, public and business sphere. The practice-oriented workshops and seminars represent a substantial part of the curriculum, while the Program supports and develops cooperation with private sector in the long-term.
The goal of the Program is to assist the students with acquiring all the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for successful competition on energy related job market. The Program motivates the students to develop critical thinking, experience both individual and team work, master the methods and techniques of rigorous research, and build a solid knowledge base of contemporary energy industry.

 

Entry requirements

The Energy Security Studies Program is open to students holding a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in the social sciences (political science, International Relations, European studies, and related disciplines, including history, law, economics, etc.) or the humanities from a recognized institution of higher education. Applicants must have a good command of the English language.

Deadlines

Applicants who wish to enroll in the Fall semester: the deadline for applications is April 30. Applicants who wish to enroll in the Fall semester and do not need to arrange visa or residence permit for the Czech Republic and have already completed the Degree Recognition procedure: applications can be accepted by September 1 (of the same year).

Applicants who wish to enroll in the Spring semester: the deadline for applications is November 30 (non-visa applicants: February 1).

 

Costs

From 1 September 2012, the tuition fee for the Energy Security Studies program is 1500 euro per semester (3000 euro per year or 6000 euro for the whole degree program). See the tuition fees section on university website for reference.

The tuition fee covers tuition, as well as student administration, access to the library and computers, access to other university facilities, and course readers. The fee also covers e-learning and comfortable WWW access to electronic versions of study materials (all compulsory course readings are available on the university Intranet) and other digital resources.
The tuition fee does not cover room, board, insurance or the cost of student trips.

Tuition fees are payable at the beginning of the semester. As proof of payment, an invoice will be issued by the economic division. If requested, the tuition fee could be paid in two installments.

The program is also open to students whose aim is not to study for a graduate degree, but only to earn credits. These students may enroll in individual courses of their choice. The tuition fees for these courses are proportional to the number of credits.
