Eligibility

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures of the University of Leeds, the largest of the UK, is seeking to appoint a lecturer in Russian with a fixed term contract of two years, starting in September 2012.
With native or near-native command (or equivalent) of Russian and an excellent command and extensive knowledge of the English language, the candidate will cover undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Russian, contributing to existing modules in both language and culture, as well as in the second year of post offering specialist modules within your areas of research expertise. The successful candidate will be able to teach at all levels of the undergraduate programme in Russian, as well as supervise research students.

Potential candidates should have a PhD within the field of Russian Studies and relevant teaching experience. Recent and forthcoming publications will indicate an ability to make a distinctive contribution to research activity in the years to come. Candidates should have the potential to be considered for inclusion in the School’s submission to REF 2014. Research should contribute to the strategic agenda within Russian of developing the theme “Russia(n) in the Global Context”. Applicants should also be able to contribute to research activity in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and will be expected to demonstrate a potential to generate external research income and impact in their specialist area.

Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to enhancing the student experience in Russian and the School in the post-2012 context and to undertake further administrative and managerial tasks as required.

Application Procedure

There will be a formal university interview for this post. Shortlisted candidates will be required to send two example publications in advance of the interview, and on the date of the interview may also be required to make a presentation to the School about their research and teaching.
