Simon Morrison will give a talk on the arrest and imprisonment of Lina Prokofiev on April 24, 2012. This talk, based on documents from the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Russian State Archive of Social-Political History, and the Prokofiev Estate in Paris, describes how and why Prokofiev's wife Lina was arrested in 1948, the specific nature of her incarceration in the Gulag, and her release in 1956.
Simon Morrison is Professor of Music at Princeton University, specializing in Russian and Soviet music, French neoclassicism, and ballet. The President of the Prokofiev Foundation, he is the author of 'The People's Artist: Prokofiev's Soviet Years', and a forthcoming biography of Lina Prokofiev. Morrison is also researching a book on Shostakovich with support from a Guggenheim Fellowship.
