Conference venue: Skopje (Macedonia)
Period: May 19-20, 2012
Deadline for registration: May 1, 2012
The first conference of postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities “Identity, Identities and New Media” will take place in Skopje on May 19-20, 2012. The event is organized by the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities Research “Euro-Balkan”, based in the Macedonian capital.
The issues raised by this academic event are related to researching the relations between new media and identity today. In what way can we identify the cultural identity as a coherent entity within the various petitions and localization of gender, nationality, race, language, sexuality, religious discourse, political, ideological and historical context?
On the other hand - the era of digital media when the importance of geographical distance is being lost, when the level of communication takes place with the speed of light, when democratization and universalization become the virtual geographic world - how in such conditions and circumstances can we talk about preservation of cultural identity and how could it be the driving force in a society and how cosmopolitan dimensions of new media enable cultural identity to be a citizen of the world?
The aim of the conference “Identity, Identities and the New Media” is to open an academic discussion of postgraduate, master's, doctoral students and all scholars dealing with critical thought in the country and the region.
A Curriculum Vitae and an abstract (300 words) should be sent to: jordan@euba.edu.mk.
