International Winter School on Federalism and Governance

Venues: Innsbruk (Austria) and Bozen/Bolzano (Italy)

International Winter School on Federalism and Governance

The Winter School is designed for participants from all nationalities who wish to develop their knowledge on federalism and minority rights via an interdisciplinary and comparative approach. We welcome applications from doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate students, academics, officials, politicians, journalists, employees of international organizations or NGOs, as well as interested citizens.

The Winter School offers a broad range of courses on federalism and governance providing in-depth analyses and practical knowledge regarding the problems, solutions and instruments that are and can be used in creating territorial solutions for minority-based problems.

During the 10-day-full time programme several case-studies from Europe, North America and Asia will be presented by international academics from Canada, Europe and Asia and key actors who manage these issues on a daily basis at the local, regional, international (Council of Europe) and supranational (EU) level.


Certification

Successful participants of the programme will be awarded 10 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) and the best working papers will be considered for publication.

Costs

The participation fee for the Winter School should be paid upon enrolment in late November 2011:    
Option 1: € 700,00 - includes 13 nights-accommodation in a single room with breakfast. 
Option 2: € 500,00 - includes 13 nights-accommodation in a twin room with breakfast. 

The participation fee covers:
Accommodation as specified above, tuition fee, materials, guided tours, bus transfer from Innsbruck to Bolzano at the end of week 1, welcome coffee and party, access to the libraries and internet access on both venue sites (i.e. the Faculty of Political Science, University of Innsbruck and EURAC Bolzano/Bozen).

Please note that meals other than breakfast are not included. Also travel costs and other expenses not listed above are NOT covered by the tuition fees and must therefore be paid by the participants .

Scholarships

Several "James Madison Trust" scholarships will be awarded. The organizers distinguish between:
"full scholarship"  covering the accommodation costs in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen and a contribution towards the participants’ travel expenses (refund).
"partial scholarship"covering only  the accommodation costs in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen

Everyone is welcome to apply for a scholarship, however, scholarships are limited. Preference will be given to students and to participants from overseas.
The scholarships will be awarded after all applications have been processed by late November 2011. Holders of these scholarships are requested to pay a participation fee of € 100 upon enrolment. 

 

How to participate to the course

The application can be made exclusively online at the EURAC website. The basic requirements are as follows:
- personal data
- academic and professional education
- work experience (if applicable) 
- motivation (max. 250 words)
- abstract (max. 500 words) on one of the topics listed above.
These topics will be further discussed and analyzed in small workshops during the Winter School.
Please note that without your abstract your application will not be taken into consideration!
