The document is a report submitted on behalf of the Political Committee by Mr Piero Fassino at the Plenary Session of the WEU Parliamentary Assembly on June 16, 2010. Mr Fassino was appointed Raporteur on the Western Balkans in December 2009; after several missions in the region, he submitted the Report and Resolution "The EU and the Western Balkans", which was approved unanimously.
The report reiterates that the European integration of the countries in the Western Balkans is a strategic priority for the EU. While stressing that the direct involvement of the international community helped bringing stability in the region, it also admits that there still remain some reasons for concern, with particular regard to the fragility of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the situation in Kosovo.
The report insists that the EU should adopt a "road map" clearly setting the steps and times of European integration for the Western Balkans.
The document is available in English and Italian language. Moreover, the address by Piero Fassino to the 58th Assembly is also available.
