This area offers a wide range of continuously updated news regarding both academic and cultural events together with academic calls and study programs
Venue: Diyarbakır (Turkey)
Period: September 10-21, 2010
The experience "Solidarity Tourism in Kurdistan" aims to let people travel to and visit the area of Turkey where the Kurdish population lived (the south-eastern area of Turkey), through the network of friendships developed by the organizers during their first journey to Kurdistan. Ms. Grisi and Mr. Canestrari propose a new way of travelling which avoide the structures of the commercial tourism (read hotels), and encourages staying in the families of such friends of theirs. Participants will thus have the opportunity to deeply know this people and to repay them for their hospitality with a very little contribution.
The organizers think that this way of travel highlights one of the strongest characteristics of Kurdish people: their warm hospitality, their desire to open and share their cultural identity that they feel deeply and tenaciously tied up; an identity that they live as an occasion of meeting with people different from themselves, and not as a barrier that separates them from the others.
The main stages of the journey will be the sites of Diyarbakır, Van, Hakkari, Yüksekova, Şemdinli, Doğubayazıt, Sason.
