Written by Lino Veljak, this article appeared on the third issue of the journal Filozofska istraživanja in 2008.
The author discusses the political and spiritual context of the founding of the Croatian Society for Philosophy in 1957, as well as the motivation of its founders. After World War II, Marxist/Leninist dogmatism has been imported from the USSR, and as such became the basis of any philosophy. The younger of the founders concentrated on its criticism, creating a framework that has helped abandon the leading dogmas of the period and create an internationally accepted philosophy during the 1960s.
