Civil Society and NGOs in Europe and Russia: Responding to New Challenges and Opportunities

Description of the Conference

The conference will analyze the new challenges that NGOs are facing today both in Russia and European countries. The most significant and influential of these challenges are caused by globalization and the decline of welfare states in the contemporary world. In fact, on one hand both these processes present challenges to civil societies and citizens, and on the other they provide new structure of opportunities to increase self-help activities and self-organization and moreover the development of NGO and civil society.

Eligible topics for the conference

Papers should be related to the following questions:

  • What are the main tendencies of NGO developments in a particular or different country(ies) from the perspective of your field of research?
  • What theoretical approaches and models are appropriate and fruitful for research on NGOs?
  • How can the decline of welfare states and other economic factors influence NGO development?
  • What are the main consequences of transnationalization and globalization and other elements of contemporary politics for NGOs?

 

Guidelines for submission

Proposals for papers and presentations at the conference should include an abstract of the proposed presentation as well as the author's CV and they should be sent to: info@zdes.spb.ru.
