Stressing on interdisciplinary studies focused on Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, the master's curriculum is aimed at those students with a BA degree in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Languages (and Slavic languages in particular), agricultural studies and cultural studies generally. The master's programme is entirely in English and yields 120 ECTS.
MIREES students will spend the first year in Forlì (one of the five campuses of the University of Bologna), while in the second year a minimum of 5 months will be spent at one of the Partner Universities (the Vytautas Magnus University at Kaunas, the Corvinus University of Budapest, the St Petersburg State University, the University of Ljubljana) and, in particular cases, at other MIREES Associated Universities in the Balkans.
The programme aims also at developing language skills and in this context MIREES offers courses in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Russian, and Slovak (Hungarian and Lithuanian are also available in the 2nd year), as well as Italian for foreigners as an additional option.

For admission to the Master of Arts MIREES, students must have a suitable personal preparation in either Law, Economics, Social Sciences (Political science, Sociology, Political Geography, Demography, Gender Studies, Psychology, Anthropology), Humanities (History, Philosophy, Literature, Language Studies, Cultural studies) and Agriculture, both European and international, and also in recent political and economic events in the European and international contexts, usually supplied by a First Cycle Degree (BA).
Additionally, all candidates must have essentials computer science skills and an active knowledge of English, whilst accepted students will be encouraged to use at least two languages among those of the EU Member States and deepen the knowledge of the qualifying language skills offered by MIREES.
While EU students and non-EU students with equivalent status , provided they have the entry requirements and a satisfactory personal preparation, can be admitted to MIREES without any numerical restriction, no more than 40 non-EU students residing abroad , who have the entry requirements and a satisfactory personal preparation, will be admitted to MIREES.
Applicants are required to send the following paper documents:
- completed Application form;
- completed programme proposal;
- a detailed English-written curriculum vitae ac studiorum;
- a copy of the degree certificate;
- English language certificate;
- two letters of introduction written by Academics in English or, if the applicant belongs to an institution, by the institution's manager;
- attestation of essential computer skills;
- a copy of each publication, if any.

In order to enroll in the programme, admitted students must submit the enrolment form, pay the first instalment of the annual tuition fee and send the Students Registry Office the documents as required in the call.
