The Association for Democratic Initiatives (ADI) is a multiethnic non-governmental organization in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. It was established in Gostivar Macedonia in 1994.
This NGO aims to integrate human rights into political, economic and social development of Southeast European societies. Its main purposes are: the protection and promotion of international human rights standards and values; the building of a strong civil society; the support to citizens, refugees, migrants, youth, media, government, the private sector and other NGOs through participation and educational activities.
The Association for Democratic Initiatives is an important member of the Steering Committee of the Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN), a founding member of the Board of Directors of the South East European Refugee Assistance Network (SEE-RAN), a member of the European Committee on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), a member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), a member of CIVITAS International and has been elected Sub-regional Coordinator of the UN-NGO Informal Regional Network / Eastern Europe.
