The attentions of the Soros Foundation–Latvia are focused on the strengthening of the democratic institutions, the protection of the human rights of minorities and other vulnerable groups, and the increase of social inclusion and civic participation.
The organization has been a key advocate in reforming Latvia’s mental health legislation encouraging community-based mental health care services, instead of care services through psychiatric institutions, in order to protect the human rights of people with mental disabilities. It has also launched campaigns in order to increase tolerance of diversity.
The foundation is also active in promoting campaigns in order to fight the crimes against racial, ethnic and sexual minorities.
