The Fondazione Italiani nel Mondo organizes the meeting "The unknown Holocaust of Italian emigrants in Crimea" ("L'olocausto sconosciuto degli emigrati italiani in Crimea") in Rome.
The conference will focus on a mostly unknown story, which regards thousands of Italian emigrants in Crimea who were subject to deportation under the Soviet regime. The meeting intends to bring to light this dark episode in the history of Italian emigrations and mark the starting point of a political as well as legislative action of solidarity towards the descendants of Italians in Crimea.
The meeting will be opened by prof. Antonello Folco Biagini, professors of History of Eastern Europe and Prorector for International Relations at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome, and prof. Giulio Vignoli, professor of Political Science and author of several books on the discussed topic.
Senator Nicola Paolo Di Girolamo, Deputy President of the Fondazione Italiani nel Mondo, and Hon. Aldo Di Biagio, responsible of Italians in the world for the Italian party PdL, will present the legislative proposals which have been worked out in this regard. Dr. Stefano Pelaggi, president of Concordia Onlus, will then introduce a project financed by the region Lazio in order to open an office for the descendants of Italians in Crimea to obtain Italian citizenship.
Massimo Mariotti, consultant of the region Veneto will attend the meeting, and Dr. Gian Luigi Ferretti, director of the newspaper L'Italiano will chair the discussion.
