Dropping, maintaining and breaking the Iron Curtain: the Cold War and East-Central Europe Twenty Years

The conference

Twenty years after the downfall of communism in the coutries of Eastern and Central Europe and the end of the Cold War, the Institute of Contemporary History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, together with the Government of the Czech Republic, organizes the international conference "Dropping, maintaining and breaking the Iron Curtain: the Cold War and East-Central Europe Twenty Years Later".

Gathering in Prague well-known historians, scholars and former dissidents, the conference aims at focussing topics such as the origins and end of the bipolar conflict, the role played by East-Central Europe during the Cold War, and the consequences it had on the XXI century.
The conference will be in English language.

Preceding the conference, on Nov. 19 a panel discussion entitled "How Well Did the Cold War Experience Prepare for Membership in NATO and EU?" will take place at the seat of the Governemtn of the Czech Republic.
