Serbia's Europe Identity: the future of the past

The conference

A three-day conference in Rome will be devoted to the analysis of today political identity of Serbia and its linkage to the past cultural identity of the country. Focus of the event, entitled "Serbia's European identity: the future of the past. Study days devoted to the Serbian follower of the Enlightenment Dositej Obradović (1739-1811)" will be the figure of Dositej Obradović, the first Serbian intellectual to introduce the West culture in Serbia.

Structured into daily sessions and roundtables, the event aims at discussing the evolution of Serbian-European relations, focussing how Serbia played a central role in the cultural history of Europe, and is currently playing the same role with reference to the political and strategic equilibrium in the Balkan area.
