In the framework of the Halki International Seminars yearly organised by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy, the 2009 seminar is devoted to "Current and Emerging Security Challenges in Europe's Neighbourhood: What Role for Transatlantic Institutions?".
The five-day seminar will focus on the role of the transatlantic institutions in supporting local stakeholders when addressing security challenges in the Middle East, the Black Sea and Southeastern Europe.
The seminar will analyse traditional regional conflicts, as well as new security issues, focusing in particular climate changes, migration issues, energy policies, and the effects of globalization. Discussions will be devoted to assess current transatlantic strategies and draft future policies for the stabilization of turbulent regions and the resolution of conflicts.
The seminar will be highly interactive, as it will include break-out working groups and roundtable discussions.
Policy-makers, academics, journalists, diplomats, members of parliament and young researchers (post docs and PhD candidates) interested in taking part in the seminar can apply. You must fill in the Halki Application Form and send it by email at halki@eliamep.gr no later than April 3rd, 2009.
