Venue: Ankara (Turkey)
Period: May 21-24, 2009
Migration is a core issue in Balkans past and present history, not only for its social, economic and political aspects, but also from a cultural point of view. To foster interdisciplinary dialogue and facilitate comparisons across nations, the International Association for Southeast European Anthropology (InASEA) organises the conference “Migration to, from, and in Southeastern Europe: Intercultural Communication, Social Change and Transnational Ties” in Ankara.
The meeting will focus the socio-cultural dimensions of migration and it will consider the entire migration process, discussing the relevant social, economic, and political contexts.
The main aim of the conference is to explore Southeastern Europe as a unique laboratory for salient aspects of historical and present migration, firmly rooting this region in the global landscape of migration studies.
Interested scholars are invited to give a contribution by submitting papers (read more information about the call for papers).
Participants from the countries of Southeast Europe not in the European Union before 2006 (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey) might have their travel and accommodation expenses partly covered.
InASEA members are entitled to free participation in the conference. Non-InASEA members will be asked to pay an on-site registration fee equivalent to:
