Description: Moscow State Institute of International Relations , often abbreviated МГИМО, MGIMO) is a university that belongs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. It is the oldest and the most renowned school in Russia for preparing students for careers in international relations and diplomacy. Several of the current professors of MGIMO were ambassadors or ministers. Since the 1990s, MGIMO has expanded its academic programme, now offering degrees ranging from journalism to economics and management. Today, the majority of alumni no longer pursue a career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instead becoming civil servants in other parts of the state apparatus or joining large corporations.
MGIMO is one of Russia's most distinguished educational institutions, admitting students through a rigorous selection process. It is widely considered an elite university, both due to the highly selective admission process and its role for the education of members of the Russian elite. Many of its current students are from families of the political, economic and intellectual elite in Russia. MGIMO prides itself on its language education. 56 languages are taught there. MGIMO is one of the members of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs.
