Envisioning Moving Frontiers: Migration Management, Minority Protection and the Enhancement of Territorial Cooperation

The 23rd edition of the School "Envisioning Moving Frontiers: Migration Management, Minority Protection and the Enhancement of Territorial Cooperation" scrutinizes the prospective developments related to a twofold research focus: the implementation of Migration management and security issues, involving both the internal migration related to the war in Eastern Ukraine and the external migration faced by Western Balkans in the recent years, as well as the rise of new internal frontiers in Europe, conceived to face the escalating migration crisis.
 
Additionally to the set of class lectures and workshops, the summer school includes in its didactic offer the participation to the CEI International Conference  Restructuring Identities vs. Managing Minorities. Fostering Intercultural Dialogue and Preserving Cultural Diversity in Southeastern Europe, which will take place at the castle of Bertinoro, co organized by the University of Bologna – Department of Social and Political Sciences, with the  Centro per l’Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica – UOS di Forlì, in cooperation with the editorial board of “Southeastern Europe” Journal (Brill Publishers). The conference focuses on the issues at stake in the area, welcoming participants from the Balkan countries and Ukraine, and promoting academic cooperation. As a result, the conference envisions the identity and minority issues following both national and macro-regional perspectives, in an attempt to understand the transformation of the complex dynamics in drawing national (and all-European) borders from South-East and East-Central European perspectives in the light of the recent crisis that affected, in different ways, Ukraine, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Albanian-Serbian relations.
 
The 23rd CEI summet school and its final conference promote a one week international forum of experts and young professionals in human rights issues with the aim of stimulating a dynamic discussion on over the prospective developments related to the implementation of minority rights; the principles of territorial integrity and territorial cooperation, the relationships between diaspora commnunities, in the framework of both the existing nation-states and the EU integration processes, while elaborating on the CEI role in these contexts. In this regard, the making of ‘inclusive’ and ‘exclusive’ identities, in the aftermath of both the Ukraine Crisis and the Migration Crisis, will lie at the core of the research focus of the lecturers’ speeches.
 
The summer school is realized in close cooperation with the European Regional Master's Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe, coordinated by the Universities of Sarajevo and Bologna, and co-funded by the European Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy.
 
The co-directors of the summer school are  prof. Stefano Bianchini and prof. Francesco Privitera, supported by the scientific coordinator Dr. Marco Puleri and the academic coordinator Mr. Adriano Remiddi.
