International Charitable Fund named after Dmitry Likhachev was established in 2001.
Figure of academician Dmitry Likhachev (1906-1999) is symbolic for the Russian culture of the twentieth century. This Russian intellectual, who survived a Soviet camp, an eminent scientist and thinker, social activist, managed to keep dignity, responsibility, loyalty to Russia in a totalitarian society. In the 1990s he became a moral standard for many people in the country.
The Foundation's mission has been formulated by Likhachev - the development of Russian culture, education, the humanities, the spread of democratic and humanistic values. The Fund operates in regional, Russian and international programs, conducts grant competitions, supports seminars and conferences, publishes books. The Foundation has representatives in Moscow, Volgograd, New York.
