The European Summer School 2007 (ESS 2007) "Central Europe in the EU: Old Europe - New Europe " focuses on the role, activities and impact of the new member states from Central Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) in the enlarged European Union. Participants of the ESS 2007 will learn and discuss about the political and economical challenges the new EU member states are facing.
The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies invites applications for grants to support doctoral dissertation research and write-up in any field of Baltic Studies. Funds may be used for travel to research site, equipment, duplication or other needs as specified. Proposals will be evaluated according to the scholarly potential of the applicant, and the quality and scholarly importance of the proposed work, especially to the development of Baltic Studies. Applicants must currently be enrolled in a PhD program and have completed all requirements for a PhD except the dissertation.
The third summer school of the Batthyany Lajos College offers a forum for thinking together and discussion for young people coming from Europe. We are waiting for young students under 30 to apply from all over Europe, but the Central-European region (including Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and the Balkans) is preferred. Noted lecturers, experts and professors help to discuss the legal, political, economic and cultural aspects of the EU accession, taking into special consideration the situation of Central-Europe, the new member states and their neighbors, the transition to the rule of law and the regional cooperation. The Summer School will also include cultural events and trips to historical places of Hungary.
20 students from Romania and 10 from other European countries - undergraduate, MA, and PhD students in socio-political studies - are
invited to take part in a summer school in Sibiu, the 2007 European Capital of Culture. The focus of the summer school will be the study of European anti-discrimination policies and institutions, in the context of promoting human rights.
The aim of the sixth Visegrad Summer School is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and to create an alternative learning environment for young people from Central and Eastern Europe. The program is an opportunity for the participants to get acquainted with and discuss current social and security, economic, political and cultural issues. It is also an opportunity to learn about each other and start an international co-operation between the peoples and the countries. Journalists from Southeast Europe are invited to apply for the Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence programme, 2007.
Each year, ten Balkan journalists, no older than 35 at the time of application, are competitively chosen to receive funding and professional support. The seven month programme will allow fellows to research and report on a topic of regional as well as European importance. Journalists receive a fellowship of 2000 Euros and a travel allowance of up to 2000 Euros.
The Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence is an initiative of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and ERSTE Foundation, in cooperation with the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN.

The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies accepts applications for subvention grants on an ongoing basis. These grants support the publication of scholarly books and book-length translations in any field of Baltic Studies. AABS primarily supports scholarship in the humanities and humanities-related social sciences. Applications will be evaluated according to the scholarly accomplishments of the applicant, the merit of the proposed book, and its importance to the development of Baltic Studies.
For a special issue of the Anthropology of East Europe Review on Roma and Gadje, scheduled for Fall 2007. We are seeking papers that consider the ways individuals and communities negotiate, resist and reproduce the places Roma occupy in non-Romani spheres, as well as sociological analyses of the lifeworlds and counterpublics of Roma in Eastern Europe.

Following several meetings and an analysis of the scarce training and exchange possibilities for university researchers, the Coimbra Group Universities decided to create a special seminar for university researchers in order to offer them the opportunity to exchange opinions and ideas and discuss their researches with prominent European and Russian experts.
The seminar is designed for the intensive training of researchers from Russian Universities and from the Coimbra Group universities, that includes 37
